Its started snowing in the early hours of Friday morning and its been snowing ever since. I thought we had a lot earlier in the year but this is incredible, made worse by a brisk wind which is causing big drifts. I walked up to the allotment this afternoon as I realised that I'd left the spade there and we needed it to clear some of the snow! It is one pristine view, you are can't even see where the raised beds are.
It was up to our knees in places. This is the most snow I've seen for a very long time.
In the garden I got the ruler out (sad I know) and on the lying snow on the bench it was 8 and a half inches, ~21cm. But it is much deeper than that where it has drifted.

Poor Bob, I can't even show you any pictures of him as he is just not going out! But I can't blame him the path onto the grass is deeper than him. We've cleared a path to the side so he can at least get out. The snow is blowing into the back door making it hard to even get out of his cat flap.
My poor sweet pea seeds, will be shivering in the mini-greenhouse.
The front garden is covered too.
Looks set to stay for a while as well as staying cold most of the week.
So I've lost the plot for a while so I'm taking advice from Bob and snuggling in for the rest of the day and he's an expert.

Bob's got the right idea! I am amazed by all that snow! the pictures of your bench really show the depth! We've got a lot here too, well I thought it was a lot but not as much as you. I'm snuggling today too!
ReplyDeleteIts finally stopped now and the sun has come out, it does look pretty though.
DeleteI think we should all follow Bob's example - stay warm and snuggle down x Jane
ReplyDeleteYes I think he knows best in this weather!
DeleteI've just been outside again and the snow is still falling. When will this winter ever end! I'm with Bob, snuggle up and keep warm, tomorrow is another day. Take care. Chel x
ReplyDeleteThe sun has come out now and its almost blinding against the snow, but the wind is biting so more armchair gardening today.
DeleteWe have very little snow here but it is blowing a gale and freezing. Sat crocheting most of the day then went to B&Q and bought some seeds! Will plants them hopefully tomorrow. SorryAnnie but I have a greenhouse. I'll make a wish that somehow you'll get one soon.
ReplyDeleteKeep warm
Portia x
Enjoy your seed sowing. I have got a couple of small minigreenhouses and they normally do me but will be far behind with everything this year. Oh well.
DeleteGoodness me, it all looks rather pretty but not at this time of year. The pristine snow makes for some good photos. Bob certainly has the right idea.
ReplyDeleteTake care, and stay warm. Flighty xx
The sun has come out today so may look even more pretty, but the wind has got up so not sure I even feel like going out for that.
DeleteSimilar situation here, and I need to leave the house as I need more pots for my seedlings. Take care.
ReplyDeleteTake care going out, the roads are treacherous here. But you've got to keep your seedlings happy!
DeleteUntouched snow looks so pretty. There was certainly a heavy snow fall this time, I'm just hoping that it's the end of it now. We've got an icy wind blowing, it's just so cold. I think Bob's got the right idea.
ReplyDeleteIts definitely the most since I've lived in Huddersfield. Yes thats what I'm hoping too.
DeleteIt is depressing, isn't it, to see the snow back again. Like you, my gardening will be behind this year because of the cold. Bob is very wise; he looks warm and comfortable and able to sleep it all out!
ReplyDeleteYes very behind this year but you've just got to go with the weather conditions
DeleteGood heavens! Eight and a half inches and deeper in drifts????
ReplyDeleteIt's beyond ridiculous! We've had snow for the last few days but it's not sticking. The wind here is the killer too, almost froze my eyeballs while walking the dogs.
Hello to Bob, he has the right idea and sure looks snuggy there.xxxxx
Its crazy, its sooo cold too. The snow has hardly gone even now and its started snowing heavy again today. Am really fed up with it now.
DeleteEeeeek! You certainly got a lot of snow, much more than us. No sunshine here and it's dark, gloomy and still bitterly cold.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the snow is going to be here at least till after easter no end to this cold spell in sight at the moment. All gardening plans out of the window.
DeleteBob has the right idea. :) It is incredible how much snow there has been. My in-laws live near Burnley and they had to dig out their car. Glorious sunshine here today but tiny little snowflakes falling have rather spoilt the illusion, from indoors at least, that it looks more spring-like outdoors.
ReplyDeleteYes there has been some heavy showers in places but then others have missed it completely. I wish we had some sunshine. More snow faling now!
DeleteThat is some snow!! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog, nice to be in touch with someone new. We have seen all your snow on the news, hope you are managing to keep warm, we just seem to get rain, rain and more rain, it must all end soon, where is spring?!
ReplyDeleteHi Pauline, Thanks for dropping by my blog too. Yes I don't which is worse rain or snow, either way its not very spring like. Yes it must end soon though another heavy snow shower here as I write.
DeleteThat IS a lot of snow! We've been fairly lucky here in London, with just a smattering here and there, but boy, is it cold! I hope yours has melted now and there have been no garden casualties.
ReplyDeleteIts gone now thank goodness, and think no major casualties though Hellebores have flopped a bit!
DeleteHope that you and the garden have emerged from that veritable blanket of snow - it looks even more than we had. Your cat had definitely decided on the right course of action.
ReplyDeleteIts emerged again, I'm just hoping we get some colour soon and things start growing. Its been a weird spring!
